Description: I'm sure you've heard arguments that the science around climate change isn't settled and that scientists "aren't sure" that we humans are causing it. That bright and shiny message, this book argues, is brought to you by the same folks who cast shade on studies that tie smoking to lung cancer, coal smoke to acid rain, and CFCs to the ozone hole. Doubt is their product and they're damn good at making it. Let's read to find out how this small yet potent group has sown denial of one of the overwhelming facts of our time and see if we can use any of their tricks against them.
A special note that this Book+ Club will also have a free Blinkist summary available for participants, as an optional alternative to reading the full book. There is also an 1.5 hour documentary based on the book available on Amazon and YouTube.
Genre: Climate Change
Intent of Session: This will be the fourth book in our climate change series, where we’ve so far explored the origins of the modern North American environmental movement, gotten a preview of the fun we may be expecting in a warming world by reviewing five past mass extinctions, and explored Bill Gates' proposed solutions. In this session, I hope to explore how the climate denial movement was born, why it's so pervasive, and how we can change people's minds.
