Description: The ungifted, unenchanting daughter of a god and goddess turns to us mere mortals for understanding and in doing so finds her power. Zeus, being Zeus, banishes her to a deserted island, where she hones her occult craft and crosses paths with many of the most famous figures in mythology: the Minotaur, the gravity-prone Icarus, and, of course, our dear Odysseus. Despite being stranded on a deserted island, she manages to draw the wrath of both men and gods. To protect what she loves most, Circe must summon her strength and choose, once and for all, whether she belongs with the gods from whom she was born, or the mortals whom she has come to love.
Intent of Session: Let's get some powerful women characters up in here! We've read a lot of great nonfiction books about leadership, finding one's path, and welding our individual and collective strengths to make the world a better place. Let's dive now into a woman's story of finding her own path against mortal and immortal odds, and see what we discover in ourselves and each other. There are lessons that sometimes are more easily accessed through stories than through facts. Plus, who doesn't love some good god squabbles?
